During her official state visit to China (17-21 August), Aung San Suu Kyi, the State Counsellor of Myanmar, exchanged in-depth views with her mainland counterparts, with an important consensus emerging with regard to maintaining the traditional friendship between China and Myanmar, as well as promoting bilateral comprehensive strategic co-operative partnership in this new era. Myanmar welcomed China's Belt and Road Initiative as well as the co-operation initiative regarding the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor. The two sides pledged to continue to enhance several intergovernmental co-operation mechanisms, notably the Joint Commission on Economy and Trade, the Commission on Agricultural Co-operation and the Commission on Electric Power Co-operation. There was also agreement on strengthening mutually beneficial co-operation in several other areas, including the economy, trade, agriculture and finance.
